Slight odor

Post by Snake »

I fired about 5 slugs from my batch 2 gr-1 Anvil at full power when I started to notice a slight, unpleasant odor eminating from the rear vent holes. Most devices which use batteries heat up and, when they do, they give off a smell. So should I expect an odor whenever I'm using my weapon?

Hi Snake,

Firing 5 slugs, at full power, in rapid succession, from the GR-1 Anvil is not advised. It is possible to inadvertently exceed temperature limits on some components before the integrated temperature monitors can alert you to an elevated temperature.

That being said - the unit is designed to fire a full 10-round magazine without having problems. But, it's important to remember that these are prototype devices and unexpected environments or operating conditions can lead to malfunctions.

We recommend keeping the rate of fire conservative and closely monitoring the unit's temperature after each shot to avoid potential damage to the charging unit.

Hope this answers your question!

Yes that answers my question thank you. Basically I likely heated something up a little too quickly and hence it gave off an odor. Clearly this weapon can't necessarily be fielded for practical use. Understanding these limitations is incredibly important to me as I am not a hobbyist. I actually intend to use the GR-1 in the event it becomes necessary in order to extricate myself or a third person from a violent emergency. An example of this would be the good Samaritan, bystander intervention that occurred at the Sutherland Springs, Texas incident in 2017. In other words, I bought this device in order to field it as practically as possible as a personal defense weapon. For all intents and purposes it is my "truck gun," and functions as my everyday carry in that capacity. Keeping it in a state of readiness versus keeping it in the safest state possible has been a bit of a dilemma for me. Sometimes I keep it on, but I never keep a charge in the capacitors. The reason for keeping it on is that my reaction time if I keep it off is nothing short of abysmal. Even with the power switched on, turning the safety off and using it takes almost 5 seconds, an eternity in emergency preparedness time. Because the amount of time it takes to use it if it's powered off is basically unacceptable, I often keep it on but always have a battery in. The time it takes to plug in the battery, then turn the device on is something that I find completely unacceptable. In order to have and use it as any meaningful form of self defense I'm forced to take a calculated risk in that regard. How well the GR-1 can actually be used is something I'm intently exploring and actually living out. I'm likely the only person in the world doing this with your product. I bought it because, as your advertisement mentions, it is not subject to "endless infringements." I'm starting to develop preliminary tactical methods. Such as things Iike how to quickly exit a vehicle with the weapon, and how to compensate for it's slow rate of fire by supplementing it with a secondary weapon. Anyways, I'm going to continue pushing the limits on this thing in a calculated manner, but it looks like it's going to involve some measure of risk, and it seems like there are alot of unknowns here. I hope the risk of having the device isn't greater than the risk of being a victim of violent crime, which would obviously defeat the purpose of my owning it in the first place.
